Westminster Kingsway College offers a unique opportunity to study in central London for vocational qualifications that are tailored to employment opportunities. The College offers a relaxed environment to study and great facilities at our main College Centres.

About the course

• Suitable for those who have been learning English and would like to gain some additional skills to help them get a job in a school environment. • Study a wide range of modules including: working with children to develop literacy and numeracy skills, understanding child development and understanding the importance of play in children’s learning. You will also study the way children learn and how to apply your practical knowledge in the classroom. • Studies in English, Maths and IT are an essential part of this course. You will learn the skills you need to be a teaching assistant and find out how to support a teacher and children in a primary school classroom. • For the Level 2 course, we encourage and help you to find a placement to work in a primary school for one day a week.

What are the entry requirements?

No formal entry requirements for this course. You will need to demonstrate literacy and English skills equivalent to Level 1 and also good Numeracy skills. Selection for the course is based on an interview and a short test in English and Numeracy. If you are offered a place you must apply for a CRB check and the Enhanced Disclosure must be ‘clear’.

What could I do next?

Progression to higher level courses for Teaching Assistants or into employment in a primary school.
