The national economy in a global context:
• The measurement of macroeconomic performance
• How the macroeconomy works: the circular flow of income, AD/AS analysis, and related concepts

What will I study?
There are two modules:
Module 1:
• Individuals, firms, markets and market failure:
• Economic methodology and the economic problem
• Individual economic decision making
• Price determination in a competitive market
• Production, costs and revenue
• Perfect competition, imperfectly competitive markets and monopoly
• The labour market
• The distribution of income and wealth: poverty and inequality
• The market mechanism, market failure and government intervention in markets
Module 2:
• The national and international economy:
• The measurement of macroeconomic performance
• How the macroeconomy works : the circular flow of income, AD/AS analysis, and related concepts
• Economic performance
• Financial markets and monetary policy
• Fiscal policy and supply-side policies
• The international economy

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirement
General A-Level entry requirements - Three GCSEs at grade B or above plus two further GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent). At least four GCSEs must have been assessed through examination, including English Language and Maths.
 
What are the additional entry requirements for this course?
GCSE Maths at grade B or above plus a grade C or above in at least one of the following GCSE subjects: English Language, History or Politics and a good reference.
 
For entry to the second year of the A-Level, you will need:
AS Economics at grade D or above, the entry requirements for AS Economics and a good reference or recommendation from your Tutor.
