Short Description
A levels are subject-based qualifications that can lead to university, further study, training, or work. You can choose to study three A levels over two years or a combination of A Levels and vocational A Level equivalent qualifications such as BTEC Certificates (equivalent to an AS)/ Extended Certificates (equivalent to a whole A Level). You may also wish to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) during your second year. When choosing A levels subjects it is important to consider what you are likely to enjoy and be good at. If you enjoy a subject or have an ability in it already, you are more likely to do well. Also if you have a particular career, job, or further study in mind, you may need to choose specific subjects in order to meet entry requirements.
 
Further Mathematics is a challenging qualification, which both extends and deepens your knowledge and understanding beyond the standard A level Mathematics. For someone who enjoys mathematics, it provides a challenge and a chance to explore new and/or more sophisticated mathematical concepts. As well as new learning new areas of pure mathematics you will study further applications of mathematics in mechanics, statistics and decision mathematics. Students who take Further Mathematics find that the additional time spent studying mathematics boosts their marks in single A level Mathematics as it consolidates and reinforces your standard A level Mathematics work, helping you to achieve your best possible grades. It makes the transition from sixth form to university courses which are mathematically rich that much easier as more of the first year course content will be familiar. If you are planning to take a degree such as Engineering, Sciences, Computing, Finance/Economics, etc., or perhaps Mathematics itself, you will benefit enormously from taking Further Mathematics, as it  introduces new topics such as matrices and complex numbers that are vital in many STEM degrees.
Access Method
During the 1st year there will be 5 formal internal assessments which you will need to pass in order to progress into the 2nd year. At the end of the 2nd year there are three public examinations.
Progression
Progress to a wide range of degree and other higher education courses, apprenticeships or employment.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirement
General A-Level entry requirements: Three GCSEs at grade B (or grade 5 in new GCSEs) or above plus two further GCSEs at grade C (or grade 4 in new GCSEs) or above including English Language and Maths (not including languages). Additional entry requirements: Grade B (grade 6 in new GCSEs) or above in GCSE Maths and successful completion of a Maths entry test.You will also need a good reference.
