Course Content

Childcare and Working with Children
Short Description
You will study a wide range of modules and build up a portfolio of evidence for each module.
 
Units include:
Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
Child and young person development
Positive environments for children and young people
Supporting positive behaviour of children and young people
Equality and inclusion in children and young people's settings
 
Students are subject to direct observation in the workplace by trained assessors from the College with knowledge assessed via assignments or a portfolio of evidence.
 
Placement is mandatory and MUST be secured within 4 weeks of the start date of the course
Learners will be fee assessed and should apply for a loan if appropriate.  
Please note - that any fees due, must be paid up front at enrolment.  
 
The course normally runs one day a week 09:30-14:30. In addition, learners are encouraged to attend Functional Skills, and/or GCSE Maths and English to ensure career and academic progression to L3.
Access Method
For all competency-based units students are subject to direct observation in the workplace by trained assessors from the College. Knowledge is assessed via assignments or a portfolio of evidence.
Progression
Successful completion of this course could enable you to find employment in the children and young people's sector or progress to the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirement
You will need to be working or volunteering in a school environment (for at least 1 or 2 days a week) You will also need an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (which we can currently provide for free).  You need to have at a minimum Level 1 skills in English and will be asked to do an initial assessment to check your Level of English when you attend your interview. Applicants for all College programmes must declare criminal convictions on their College application form.
