Course Details
 AS Chemistry (Edexcel)
Chemistry is an essential subject for anyone wishing to pursue a career in medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, biochemistry or pharmacy.

• Core principles of chemistry: atomic structure and the periodic table; energetics; bonding; organic chemistry

• Applications of chemistry: chemistry and the environment; food processing; pharmaceuticals; nanotechnology; new uses of chemicals

• Laboratory skills I (practical coursework).

All students will need to attend an interview and may be asked to take a written test. If you are under 19 and are applying for a two-year course our minimum entry requirements are: • 7 GCSEs grades A*–C (or equivalent), including English Language • At least one GCSE grade B or above in a relevant subject. If you wish to take 4 subjects at AS you must have: • 7 GCSEs grades A*–C (or equivalent), including English Language • At least 3 subjects at grade B or above, one of which must be in a relevant subject. In all cases at least 4 of your GCSEs must have been assessed through examination. In addition to the standard entry requirements you will require GCSE Double Science or GCSE Chemistry at grade B or above, GCSE Maths at grade C or above, GCSE English Language at grade C or above. Older students will be assessed individually. To proceed to the A2 year you will be expected to gain a grade D in the AS exam.
