Governance

Westminster Kingsway College is an independent Corporation with exempt charity status formed under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992. ('The Corporation, Westminster Kingsway Corporation and the Governing Body' are interchangeable terms that refer to the same group of people). The Instrument and Articles (I&A) of Government set down the powers, membership, roles and responsibilities of Corporations in further education (FE) colleges.

Most of the College's provision is funded by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) and/or the Young People’s Learning Agency (YPLA) and the I&A are supplemented by the Funding Agencies Financial Memoranda and Audit Code of Practice as well as general law relating to employment, equality and diversity, health and safety. The Governing Body is accountable for the use of public funds and has a duty of care for the assets of the college and the role of governors is similar to that of non-executive directors or trustees. The Governing Body is advised by a clerk who is employed directly by the Corporation and who has access to independent professional advice.

Enquiries about the work or membership of the Governing Body should be addressed to Sheila Daley, Clerk, who may be contacted on 0207 802 8354 or sheila.daley@westking.ac.uk

Westminster Kingsway College (WKC) is interested in hearing from those who would like to consider contributing to the work of the college as a Governor or as an External Co-optee Committee Member. Details of what being a Governor involves are summarised below in the ‘Information for Potential Governors’. WKC has a vibrant and very diverse student community and we would like the membership of our Governing Body to reflect that so applicants from BME communities are particularly welcome.
