21 March 2011
Westminster Kingsway College has hosted the prestigious Grand Final of FutureChef 2011. The College’s Vincent Rooms and professional teaching kitchens were the setting for the exciting end to the search for the Future Chef 2011 winner organised by Springboard UK.
More than 700 schools from across the country have participated in Future Chef 2011 to find the best of aspiring young chefs, with each of the grand finalists hoping to win this coveted title. There were over 200 guests at Westminster Kingsway College’s Victoria Centre for the final and Westminster Kingsway College staff and students were on hand throughout the event to provide food and drink to all of the visitors.
First prize went to West Midlands finalist, Jess Higgins, 16, from South Bromsgrove High School, who won with a fantastic menu of Confit and Pan Fried Sea Bass with carrot puree, broad beans and sundried tomatoes, potato skins and shallots which was served with a fondant potato and Beurre Blanc. She also had a dessert of rich chocolate fondant with a tangy orange scent, served with glazed oranges.
Former Westminster Kingsway College student and celebrity Chef Ainsley Harriott (pictured left with Springboard Chief Executive Anne Pierce MBE), presented Jess with her prize, which includes an all expenses paid trip for her and three members of her family to Rome to stay at the Rome Cavalieri, donated by Hilton Worldwide Group. Jess also won £350 worth of vouchers for her school and a Kenwood Titanium Chef machine for her mentor.
Brian Turner CBE, FutureChef Chairman said: “The level of skill and passion increases steadily every year. I would like to congratulate all the finalists as you have done fantastically well and you should be proud of yourself and what you have done.”
