Westminster Kingsway College Higher Education Graduation Ceremony 2011 title=

Westminster Kingsway College has held its annual graduation ceremony for Higher Education courses with over 150 students graduating on different degree courses. The ceremony was held at St Stephen’s Church in central London followed by a reception for students and their families and friends held in The Vincent Rooms at Westminster Kingsway College.

The guest speaker at the ceremony was Mark Field MP, the local parliamentary member for the Cities of London and Westminster. Mark Field MP gave a short address to the graduating students during which he spoke of his own studies and wished the students well in their future careers. The students and their guests were welcomed to the ceremony by Andy Wilson, Principal, Westminster Kingsway College and Geoff Booth, Assistant Principal for the School of Hospitality. The degree certificates were presented by Dr Paul Smith, Deputy Vice Chancellor at Leeds Metropolitan University, one of the College’s degree validating bodies. The ceremony was also attended by lecturers from Westminster Kingsway College and academic representatives from London South Bank University.

Andy Wilson, Principal of Westminster Kingsway College said: “This is one of the most successful graduating years for Westminster Kingsway College in recent years. Our excellent partnership work with employers was recognised in our recent Ofsted inspection and we have record numbers of students completing Foundation Degrees and BA degrees at the College this year with a number of firsts. We wish all of our students well in their future careers and thank the excellent lecturing team at the College for their hard work.”

Many of the graduating students at Westminster Kingsway College are already working in their chosen industry and were pleased to be celebrating their achievements. The graduating courses were the Foundation Degree programmes in Accounting, Business, Public Administration, Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management and Tourism Management as well as the Bachelor of Arts degrees in Hospitality or Tourism & Business Management.

Gareth Edwards - Foundation Degree in Business: “When I found my course at Westminster Kingsway College I knew it was the right one for me! There are loads of opportunities at the College. I was a member of the team that presented a business project to Unilever Food Solutions as part of a College employer initiative which was really great. The lecturers have been very supportive and the resources in the Learning Centre were fantastic.” Gareth is now studying for his BA in Business and Marketing Strategies at London South Bank University and is hoping to move forward with his goal of starting his own business.

Rebecca Fong - BA (Hons) Hospitality and Business Management: Rebecca was recognised at the graduation ceremony with a special prize from the awarding body for her excellent dissertation. “I heard about Westminster Kingsway College through word of mouth as several friends had heard of its reputation in both Culinary Arts and Hospitality and recommended it to me. I have learnt great skills like research, business understanding and time management.” Rebecca is now working at the five star One Aldwych in central London.

Damian Robinshaw - Foundation Degree in Hospitality Management (Food Service Management - Armed Forces Programme): “With my army background, it is sometime difficult to gain knowledge of commercial practices and so this course really helps you to understand that. It has been very demanding as I have been working in the army while studying but it has been worth it.”
