Catherine Johnson Creative Writing Workshop at Westminster Kingsway
13 May 2010
Acclaimed London writer, Catherine Johnson, visited Westminster Kingsway College last week to run a creative writing workshop with students at the King’s Cross Centre’s Learning Resource Centre.
Catherine Johnson is an author of books for young adults and has written eleven novels including Stella, Face Value, and Landlocked. She also co-wrote the award winning British film, Bullet Boy.
As part of the workshop the author discussed the joys and challenges of writing fiction. Later, the students learnt tools that stimulate inspiration when writing and got a chance to write a short story of their own, which some participants later read to the group.
Stephen Wickens, Westminster Kingsway Learning Centre Manager King’s Cross, said: "It was great to see the students getting so involved in this session. There was real interest in writing fiction and the group asked Catherine questions throughout. There was a five minute writing task and we were all impressed by the quality of what the students produced in just a few minutes."
