News - Global Entrepreneurship Week

Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009 at Westminster Kingsway College

Business Students at Westminster Kingsway College marked Entrepreneurship Week 2009 with a series of events across all Centres to discover new ideas about business models and planning.

At the Victoria Centre, Business woman and author, Emma Wimhurst gave a motivational speech to Business students to inspire them to plan for their future. Emma built up a highly successful cosmetics firm, Diva Cosmetics during the Spice Girls music era in the 1990s before selling her multimillion pound company some years later.

Emma spoke about her new book "Boom" which details her seven steps to future business success and said: "Enterprise is the future of the UK and these students are our economic future. If I can inspire just one person to success in the future then that would be fantastic. Businesses fail, not through a lack of talent, but because people do not have the holistic knowledge of the business world to succeed."

Business students were also inspired by a talk with Online Marketer, Julian Hall and a student visit to the Institute of Directors HQ for a Dragons Den competition. There was also the opportunity for cross College partnerships with a speed networking event for Business students from both the Victoria and King’s Cross centres.

At the King’s Cross Centre, a Business and ICT Showcase is planned for the whole week for the College’s Business and ICT students from all levels. These events include a Dreamweaver/Web Design workshop, an e-commerce workshop, a presentation on the importance of effective marketing in business, a chance to re-design the Olympic logo and an exhibition of European tourist destinations with European cuisine prepared by the students.
