Westminster Kingsway students learn ‘home is where the holiday is’
With the UK tourist industry booming, BTEC National Diploma Travel & Tourism students visited Haven Leisure Park in All Hallows, Kent to learn the benefits of a ‘staycation’.
First year students found out how a successful holiday resort operates in customer service, holiday entertainment and the behind–the–scenes business decisions needed to run an operation as busy as Haven.
Presentations from the Haven staff will be used by the students to support their assignments in their BTEC National Diploma Travel & Tourism modules, including the UK, Customer Service and Entertainment.
During the trip, the students had the chance to find out what the industry is really like from staff at the resort. Kelly Woodley, Westminster Kingsway Travel & Tourism Lecturer, said: "This trip gave students a great insight into the UK holiday industry. This is particularly important to the students in the industry as more people are choosing to take their holidays in the UK rather than spend money abroad."
Araynio Arnett, BTEC National Diploma Travel & Tourism student, said: "We have really enjoyed researching customer service and entertainment at Haven. What we have learnt from the staff here has made our class work much more relevant."
