Lord Mandelson visits Westminster Kingsway College to launch Colleges Week 2009
Westminster Kingsway College has launched Colleges Week 2009 with a visit by The Rt Hon Lord Peter Mandelson on one of his first visits to an FE College since the formation of the Department for Business Innovation and Skills in June 2009. Lord Mandelson, who holds the titles of First Secretary of State, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, and Lord President of the Council, was welcomed to Westminster Kingsway College by the Principal, Andy Wilson and the Chief Executive of the Association of Colleges, Martin Doel.
The Secretary of State was able to see the College’s new King’s Cross Centre, opened in June 2009, and visited some of the modern learning facilties including Science Laboratories and Art and Design Studios around the College building. Afterwards Lord Mandelson met a group of learners of all ages from Westminster Kingsway College who spoke to the Secretary of State about their vocational studies and experiences in Further Education. The learners represented a wide range of vocational courses including Apprenticeships in Business and Administration, Childcare, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Access to Higher Education and Performing Arts.
Westminster Kingsway College is proud to take part in the Colleges Week celebrations. The second Colleges Week, the national celebration of the role colleges play in celebrating the opportunities colleges create for individuals, businesses and Britain, is taking place during the week of the 9-15 November 2009. Westminster Kingsway College offers a unique opportunity to study in central London for vocational qualifications that are tailored directly to employment opportunities.
