High levels of achievement celebrated on Childcare courses during Colleges Week 2009






Adult Learners from Westminster Kingsway College’s Childcare courses celebrated their new qualifications with their teachers and assessors at a presentation held at the College’s King’s Cross Centre during Colleges Week 2009.

The celebration marked the end of the NVQ Level 3 course in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. The programme was held in the evenings at the College to suit the requirements of adult learners. The success of the course was evident in the number of learners who have progressed from the Level 2 course onto Level 3 and then into employment. A number of learners completed additional qualifications in Food Safety and Hygiene as part of their course.

Janice Etheridge, Head of Skills for Working Life, presented the certificates and said: "The Childcare courses at Westminster Kingsway College equip adult learners to embark successfully on a career in childcare and I’m very happy that once again this year some learners have already found work, while others have moved on to the next level in their education. Out of the 24 learners who embarked on this course, 23 have achieved their Level 3 qualification and moved into employment."

The second Colleges Week, the national celebration of the role colleges’ play in creating opportunities for individuals, businesses and Britain, is taking place during the week of the 9-15 November 2009. Westminster Kingsway College offers a unique opportunity to study in central London for vocational qualifications that are tailored directly to employment opportunities.

Miranda Andreas
NVQ Level 3 Children’s Care, Learning & Development
Miranda Andreas has been a Camden Foster Carer for five years and wanted to develop her skills further to progress into employment. "I wanted to do an evening class as I have a young daughter and so the course at Westminster Kingsway suited me. I have been learning about children’s development, this history of children’s welfare and childcare in an early years setting on this course. I have great support from the tutors and they offered flexible learning which was great." Miranda is continuing with her fostering activities and would like to work as a family support worker in the future.
