News - Pantomime Aladdin

It’s behind you!

Westminster Kingsway students delivered the must-see performance of the Christmas season last week with their version of the classic Pantomime Aladdin.

Second year students studying Musical Theatre and Dance courses at the College performed to sell-out audiences comprising of invited guests, parents and students at the College’s new state-of-the-art King’s Cross Centre Theatre. They also put on a special show for Christopher Hatton Primary School in Camden.

The show was told with lashings of wit against the majestic scenery of ancient China. It was a riot of colour, fun and entertainment for all the family with lavish ensemble numbers such as ‘Money, Money, Money’ and ‘Friend like me’ complemented by powerful solos and duets including the show-stopping ‘A whole new world’.

The WKC Panto has proven to be a highlight in the College performance calendar over the years, providing a modern twist on a family favourite. However, this year students had the added task of creating a production company and raising funds for Aladdin.

Jeffrey Sangalang, second year student and part-time Genie (pictured left), said: "We have been rehearsing for four months, four days a week but we have also had to take responsibility for the business side of running a full-scale production. It’s been a massive task but we allocated the roles and got on with it. It’s great after all that effort to be able to perform it now and I can’t wait to start the next show; I really enjoy the course and being able to do something I love every day."

Shelley Wilson, Westminster Kingsway College Tutor, said: "The students learn a range of techniques throughout the course and the Pantomime is not only a great platform for them to showcase the skills that they have acquired but also develop their ability to perform to a range of audiences. When you watch the reaction of the audience you can tell that they have delivered and that they are enjoying the experience, which is great to see and really shows what they can achieve."
