Norwegian Fish
Kalli Symmonds, a student on the NVQ
Day Release catering course won the National Junior
Norwegian Fish Dish competition. A total of 40 students
from all over the UK entered the competition but only
10 were short-listed.
Kalli says: “The course has been
brilliant so far. You learn practical and theoretical
skills, which are essential in the catering profession.
I would recommend the apprenticeship as you get the
best of both worlds. It is very hard work; I work five
days on, sometimes over weekends. I then study on top
of that. But the rewards are promising.”
She says: “The college has been
great because it offers good facilities and good teaching.
I plan to do my Level 3 here and then travel and hopefully
work as a chef in Australia.”
Also Ryan Wood won the cup for the National
Modern Apprenticeship ‘Design a Dish’ competition.
