Japanese Distance Learning
Teacher
The College recently
introduced its first ever e-learning course in Modern
Foreign Languages, in the form of the Japanese distance-learning
programme. This new concept allows students to fit in
study sessions around their schedules, at time to suit
them. This is possible because the course is completely
electronic; students practise their reading, writing
and listening skills through Blackboard Learning System,
via email and/or instant messenger.
The course is a continuation
of Entry Level Japanese, held at the King's Cross Centre.
It is five weeks in duration and consists of five sessions
where students log on and complete set work; they then
have access to a WKC tutor for feedback. The distance-learning
programme proved to be very popular with students and
WKC now intends to introduce the concept across other
languages.
The Japanese distance-learning
course will be supported by tutor Yumiko Hisanaga. Originally
from Amami-Oshima, a tropical island south of Japan,
she has been working at WKC for almost three years and
teaches Japanese at Entry, GCSE and AS level. "I love
teaching here, I am given fantastic opportunities to
do something challenging," she said. Yumiko also teaches
at a Japanese Saturday School and is very excited about
the new distance-learning course at WKC. She said, "I'm
so proud of my students this year and I can't wait for
many of them to do the distance-learning course".
