Compositing Coach courses’ at 01zero-one have been designed to establish the craft of vfx compositing step by step and from a post house work perspective.
The training is focused around typical 2d* production problems - you'll be supported in learning the techniques step by step, using current industry software. All of our tutors work in the post house sector as digital compositors. The material we use to work with on the courses has been donated by Rushes Post Production and Men From Mars.
Being the forward thinking folks we are at Compositing Coach, we have decided to adopt Nuke 5 as our core training package. We are excited about the new possibilities this software has to offer and can now announce our 'Nuke artist Series' courses. Post houses have made the leap to the new software until there are enough trained Compositors using the tool. So you could be the first of the new practitioners.
Background for Nuke: It started it’s life at a post house in LA and was acquired by the UK based company; the Foundry in February 2007. Little is known outside of the United States about how it should really be used. Compositing Coaches research for this course has been centred on finding the best way of coaching a path through this very exciting, very quick new film vfx compositing software.
In addition to our popular digital preparation course, previously ran in Shake - we'll be supporting artists as they make the transition from comping in 2d to 3d and offering training in Nukes' new image based keyer.
*2d in this context, is another visual effects industry term for compositing.

The course content is provided by experts in their field and is about more than learning where the buttons are.

HOW YOU WILL BE TAUGHT: The course takes place in our fully equipped Mac suite in Soho. The tutors will guide students through the key principles of 3d for compositors in Nuke and then coach them in the completion of at least two shots which have been supplied by our industry partners.
• The Foundry has agreed to give each student a fully functioning non-commercial license for a period of three months.
• You will be asked to complete weekly exercises at home, so as to experience the techniques for yourself, find out what you don’t understand and expand the limited session time.
• You will need access to your own Mac/Linux/Windows workstation.
• You will need to bring an external hard drive each week, so as to take material home to work on. Realise Studios, Double Negative Visual Effects and the National Film and Television School have kindly donated the material we teach with on this course.
Ian Murphy is tutor and course designer. Ian has worked at most of the big post houses in Soho and as well as learning to love the pipeline, he is interested in working with smaller independent productions. Ian currently teaches compositing at The National Film and Television School.
Matt Leonard is a 3d artist and experienced trainer. Matt is currently the Maya professor at FxPhd.
Roy Stelzer is the 2d technical director at Double Negative Visual effects. Roy is unusual; not just does he possess a technical and artistic understanding of cgi principles, but he actually wants to share his knowledge as well.
National Occupational Standards: This course will be taught in line with the Skillset occupational standards which provide a clear description of what you need to be able to do in order to perform your job competently.
