At Westminster Kingsway College, we offer a wide range of courses from Entry Level through to Level 6 Higher Education degrees.
The entry requirements for each course are usually based on the level of course you want to study so that you progress from one level to the next.
Entry Level qualifications include Entry Level Awards, Entry Level Certificates, Entry Level Diplomas (often referred to as BTECs) and have three ‘sub-levels’ – Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2 and Entry Level 3.
A Level 1 qualification is broadly equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade 3/grade D or below. They include Level 1 Awards, Level 1 Certificates, Level 1 Diplomas (often referred to as BTECs) and Level 1 NVQs.
Level 2 qualifications are broadly equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade 4/grade C or above. They include Level 2 Awards, Level 2 Certificates, Level 2 Diplomas (often referred to as BTECs), Level 2 NVQs, Level 2 National Certificates, Level 2 National Diplomas and Intermediate Apprenticeships.
Level 3 qualifications are broadly equivalent to two or three A Levels (depending on whether or not they are one year or two year courses). They include Level 3 Awards, Level 3 Certificates, Level 3 Diplomas (often referred to as BTECs), Level 3 NVQs, Level 3 National Certificates, Level 3 National Diplomas, Advanced Apprenticeships and International Baccalaureate Diplomas.
They also include Access to Higher Education Diplomas, which are are one year Level 3 courses, equivalent to three A Levels, aimed at those aged 19 or older who want to fast track to university. Most level 3 courses give you UCAS points, depending on how well you do, which enable you to progress to university.
UCAS points for A Levels are currently: A* – 56 points, A – 48 points, B – 40 points, C – 32 points, D, 24 points
UCAS points for a one-year BTEC Diploma are currently: D*D* – 112 points, D*D – 104 points, DD – 96 points, DM, 80 points
UCAS points for a two-year BTEC Extended Diploma are currently: D*D*D* – 168 points, D*D*D – 160 points, D*DD – 152 points, DDD – 144 points, DDM – 128 points, DMM – 112 points, MMM – 96 points, MMP – 80 points, MPP – 64 points, PPP – 48 points
UCAS points for an Access to HE Diploma are currently: 45D – 144 points, 39D 6M – 136 credits, 33D 9M 3P – 128 credits, 27D 15M 3P – 120 points, 21D 18M 6P – 112 points, 15D 24M 6P – 104 points, 9D 36M – 96 points, 3D 30M 12P – 88 points
Level 4 qualifications are equivalent to the first year of degree study, and include Higher National Certificates, Level 4 Awards, Level 4 Certificates, Level 4 Diplomas, Level 4 NVQs and Level 4 Higher Apprenticeships.
Level 5 qualifications are equivalent to the first two years of degree study, and include Higher National Diplomas, Foundation Degrees, Level 5 Awards, Level 5 Certificates, Level 5 Diplomas, Level 5 NVQs and Level 5 Higher Apprenticeships.
Level 5 qualifications are equivalent to a full degree with honours, such as a BA (Hons) and a BSc (Hons). They also include Level 6 Awards, Level 6 Certificates, Level 6 Diplomas, Level 6 NVQs and Degree Apprenticeships.
