About The Course

This course will give you introductory skills in art and design, covering a range of different creative industries such as fashion, illustration, and photography, to give you the opportunity to try out different pathways to help you decide which creative career you would like to pursue in the future. You will learn a variety of techniques and skills, using a range of different media and materials to produce a large portfolio of work.

What Will I Study?

Topics covered can include:

  • Fashion design and fashion illustration 
  • Drawing and painting skills 
  • Contextual studies 
  • Illustration and comics 
  • Photography and digital media 
  • Sculpture and 3D

What Will I Need?

You will need:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above in English Language and Maths, or equivalent Functional Skills
  • A reference from your previous school/college
  • A portfolio of your art and design work

All applicants must have an interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Work is assessed at the end of each unit and there are two practical-based art exams to complete.

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. What Can I Do After?

This course will help you to move on to higher level courses, specialising in an area of art and design, fashion and textiles, or digital media and creative computing, such as games design and animation.
