This course will allow you to gain an introduction to the construction trades, such as bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating, construction operations, wall and floor tiling, electrical and plumbing.
You do not need to have any previous qualifications.
All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The course is assessed throughout the year and with an end-of-course portfolio.

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. This course will help you to move on to higher level courses, specialising in an area of construction - a sector where there are many jobs and employment opportunities.
ABOUT THE COURSE
This qualifications provides the ideal introduction to the construction industry and covers essential skills in the following construction trades: bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating, construction operations, wall and floor tiling, electrical and plumbing.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
You will learn basic construction skills and knowledge and undertake various practical and knowledge-based activities. he course will cover a range of units which will allow you to have the underpinning knowledge to progress onto a level 2 qualification.
WHAT WILL I NEED?
4 GCSE graded 2 or above.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will be assessed through written portolfio work and pratical assessments which will be observed by your lecturer. Practical assessments will allow you to demonstrate the skills you have learnt throughout the course.
