ABOUT THE COURSE

This course will be delivered at the new Centre for Applied Technology in Soho, in the heart of London's Digital and Creative economy. This is an exciting new addition to Westminster Kingsway College, opening in September 2024.

Our bespoke building will provide unparalleled facilities tailored for the creators and innovators of tomorrow, enabling learners to hone their craft on industry-standard equipment and develop the skills that the industry desperately needs.

The repurposed Soho Centre will act as a beacon for world-class Creative and Digital sector provision, providing a talent pipeline of qualified and experienced individuals to access the fantastic career opportunities in these sectors.

This course will provide you with an introduction to both the creative and technical aspects of digital media production, specialising in film and visual effects, allowing you to develop skills, knowledge and understanding to progress to further education and employment within the creative industries.

Our King's Cross Centre is fully equipped with the latest state-of-the-art facilities, including high-spec computer suites, sound studios, film and TV editing and recording studios and music rooms, replicating the workplace for your studies.

Extended Diplomas have two one-year programmes. You need to finish the first year before moving on to the second.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

This course consists of two separate qualifications. In your first year of study, you will work towards the Level 3 90-Credit Diploma. Following successful completion of this qualification, you will be able to progress to the Extended Diploma. Our Extended Diplomas offer equivalent UCAS points to studying 3 A Levels.

Topics covered can include:

  • Film and photography
  • Presentation techniques
  • Film, audio and video editing
  • Factual programme production
  • Advertising
  • Data management for media industries

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language and Maths or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at Merit (and Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 2/GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 4 or above)

All applicants must have an interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

The course is assessed throughout the year and with an end-of-course portfolio.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Aged 16-18


If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August prior to the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your programme then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

Adults - Level 3

If you will be aged 19 to 23 prior to the start date of your course, and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification, you may be eligible for a Level 3 entitlement, in which case your study with us will be free. If you are older, or already have a Level 3, we have many other Level 3 courses that are also free to study. Otherwise, you will have to pay the fees yourself or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

This course will help you to move on to higher level courses, such as a Bachelor of Arts, or to pursue employment in the media industry.

MEET SOME OF THE TEACHERS

Ondre Roach

Ondre is a passionate photographer and filmmaker with over 12 years of experience in the industry. He has worked for a variety of clients, including the BBC, MTV, and several celebrities. He is also the director of a company that provides creative media training to underrepresented groups.

Ondre’s passion for teaching and education stems from his belief that everyone has the potential to be creative. He believes that creative media can be a powerful tool for social mobility, and he is committed to using his skills to help others reach their full potential.

In his teaching, Ondre focuses on helping students develop their technical skills and their creative vision. He also encourages students to explore their own stories and experiences through their work. He believes that the best way to learn is by doing, so he gives students plenty of opportunities to practice their skills, get feedback on their work and use his industry links to refer learners who have a keen eye for detail within their work.

He is a firm believer in the power of creativity to change lives. He is excited to use his skills and experience to help others discover their creative potential.


Emmanuella Niamba

Emmanuella is a seasoned Media and Music Educator with a wealth of experience in the field. With a background in both Music and Creative Media Production, she seamlessly integrates her own professional practice into her teaching. Emmanuella brings a dynamic and innovative approach to her instruction. Her passion for Music and Media is evident in every lesson, creating an engaging and enriching learning environment for her students. Through her dual professional expertise, Emmanuella fosters a holistic understanding of both theory and practical application, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience. This approach not only fosters a deeper understanding but also prepares students for the dynamic landscape of creative media and music, empowering them to excel in these vibrant industries.


Alesander Gracia Adelino

Alesander Joined Westminster Kingsway College in 2001 where he teaches Film and VFX. With a background in Communication Science from the University of Basque County, Alesander's passion for animation, particularly stop-motion, led him to pursue a master's degree in Animation and Sculpture. He even ventured into entrepreneurship with his own production company, where he crafted captivating short movies and contributed to diverse creative projects.

Alesander's dedication extends beyond the realm of filmmaking. His extensive experience in supporting students with learning difficulties showcases his commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.

What truly sets Alesander apart is his genuine love for his subject matter. His fascination with animation and art is contagious, making him a dynamic and engaging educator. He believes in equipping students with a wide range of skills that not only help them discover their unique artistic tastes but also pave the way for them to achieve their dream roles in the industry.
