You will complete a number of assignments throughout the course of the year. These will be assessed by your teachers and externally moderated by the examination board.

There have been changes to the assessment of BTEC Firsts. 75% of your work will be internally assessed but you will also take a paper-based test, a set task or performance or an on screen on demand test.

The external assessment will be at least one of the core units and a mandatory unit.

Progression

TThis course is recommended for learners who wish to apply for a Level 3 course the following year such as BTEC Level 3 in Applied Science. With a strong emphasis on science, this course also acts as a sound foundation to successfully completing the Access to Health and Human Science, Access to Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, Access to Nursing, Access to Science and Engineering and Access to Midwifery courses.
