Short Description
About the Course

This course is suitable for those over 19 years old who want to work with children and young people aged 0 to 19 years in schools, nurseries, creches or other childcare workplaces. This part-time course is the perfect stepping stone to a further study or to a career. The course starts in January 2019 and ends in December 2019 and will run two days a week.

What you will study

You will study a wide range of modules and build up a portfolio of evidence for each module. Units include: Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people; Child and young person development; Positive environments for children and young people; Supporting positive behaviour of children and young people; Equality and inclusion in children and young people’s settings; Students are subject to direct observation in the workplace by trained assessors from the College with knowledge assessed via assignments or a portfolio of evidence.

Access Method

At the end of this qualification you will produce a portfolio of work that is internally assessed throughout and moderated by the exam board during and at the end of the course. “Knowledge evidence” is assessed through the compilation of a portfolio. Practical skills are observed and assessed in the workplace by a skilled assessor. You must pass all units to achieve the full Level 2 qualification.

Progression

Successful completion of this course could enable you to find employment in the children and young people’s sector or progress to the Level 3 Diploma.

Entry Requirement

You must be 19+ and have completed a L1 qualification in a childcare or related field and / or be able to demonstrate competency in the interview / assessment process. In addition – You will need to prove that you are working or volunteering in a school environment (for at least 1 or 2 days a week) OR provide evidence that you have secured an appropriate work placement from January – December 2019. You will also need to have a current enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) OR provide evidence that you are in the process of applying for one. You need to have at a minimum Level 1 skills in English and will be asked to do an initial assessment to check your Level of English when you attend your interview. Applicants for all College programmes must declare criminal convictions on their College application form.

Placement is mandatory and MUST be secured before the start date of the course Learners will be fee assessed and should apply for a 19+ loan if appropriate. Please note –any fees due, must be paid up front at enrolment. Learners are expected to pay for their own DBS checks – Unfortunately - WKC cannot pay for DBS checks.
