About the Course
This course is for students who want to work with children under the age of 5 years. This course takes place 2 evenings a week Tuesday and Thursday 16:00 – 20:00 – (TBC) between January and December 2019. Students will be supported by a tutor and an assessor who will visit and directly observe them in their Early Years setting. You will also be assessed on knowledge evidence and assignment. All learners will be required to complete placement hours: - 350 hours total: 0 - 1year 11 months:25 hours / 2- 2years 11 months:133 hours / 3-5 years:195 hours.
What you will study
You will be completing 23 units in 4 themes: Theme 1: Health and Wellbeing / Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice / Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness Theme 4:Professional development.
At the end of this qualification you will produce a portfolio of work that is internally assessed throughout and moderated by the exam board during and at the end of the course. Assessments will consist of timed tests, response to structured questions, presentations and observations.
The qualification provides a sound basis for learners to progress to a Level 4 qualifications, enter employment or continue onto higher education.
You must be 19+ and have completed a L2 qualification in a childcare or related field and / or be able to demonstrate competency in the interview / assessment process. In addition – you must have at least a L1 qualification in Maths and English and experience of working in a childcare setting. You need to provide two references (preferable from your last work placement /current work within 2 years)
You need to provide evidence that you either have a current ENHANCED DBS OR that you are in the process of applying for one. If you do not secure a DBS or placement within the first 4 weeks of the course – you will be asked to leave – as placement hours are mandatory to achieving this diploma.
This course is available for learners taking out LOANS ONLY – this course IS NOT government funded. Support in completing this process will be explained to you at enrolment. Learners are expected to pay for their own DBS checks – Unfortunately - WKC cannot pay for DBS checks.
