About the Course
A level Intensives are just that- intensive, as you will study the entire 2 year A Level syllabus in in 9 months. For applicants aged under 18, a two year A-Level programme will normally be recommended. However, applicants aged 18 and over will be considered for the intensive course if they already have a proven record of achievement at advanced level. Please be aware that if you have already sat the exam at another school/ college and you wish to improve your grade by taking this course, then you will need to pay full fees.
What you will study
Component 1: UK Politics. You will study: • democracy and participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the media. 2. Core Political Ideas, students will study: • conservatism, liberalism, socialism.
Component 2: UK Government. You will study: • the constitution, parliament, Prime Minister and executive, relationships between the branches. 2. Non-core political ideas, students will study: • one idea from the following: anarchism, ecologism, feminism, multiculturalism, nationalism.
Component 3: Comparative Politics. You will study: • sovereignty and globalisation, global governance: political and economic, global governance: human rights and environmental, power and developments, regionalism and the European Union, comparative theories.
During the year there will be formal internal assessments which you will need to pass in order to be entered into the final three public written examinations.
Progress to a wide range of degree and other higher education courses, apprenticeships or employment.
General A-Level entry requirements: Three GCSEs at grade 5 or above plus two further GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and a written subject (not including Languages). You will also need a good reference. All applicants must take an entry test and have an interview to confirm that an intensive programme is appropriate.
