About the Course

What you will study
You will have the opportunity to study sequencing and sampling, sound engineering, general musicianship, the music industry, live sound and DJing, as well as music theory using professional industry software packages, including Logic Pro, Pro Tools and Traktor.
Your talents will be showcased during performance opportunities both in and outside of the College and in the production processes of the College's own in-house record label.
Although the emphasis is on practical and performance work you will need to complete written assignments and develop your skills as an informed and reflective practitioner through evaluative logbooks and rehearsal diaries.
You will learn to evaluate and comment critically on both professional work and your own creative practice, gaining insight into the wider performing arts industry through contextual and industry studies.
Many of your teachers are professional musicians, which gives the course a real work focus. During your course you will be engaging in work activities aimed at giving you an insight into working in this industry.
Students will be assessed continuously over the two years of the study programme across the Diploma & the Extended Diploma. Each project will test your ability to communicate effectively, prepare work for production output in a timely manner, and demonstrate your potential to work within your chosen field.
You will be assessed through your finished products which should contain all your research, planning and production evidence.?
This course enables students to progress to university or to get started in the music industry.
Four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and a Music/Performing Arts subject or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at grade Merit or above with Functional Skills Maths and English at Level 2 and a good reference.
