About the Course
A level Intensives are just that- intensive, as you will study the entire 2 year A Level syllabus in in 9 months. However, applicants aged 18 and over will be considered for the intensive course if they already have a proven record of achievement at advanced level. Please be aware that if you have already sat the exam at another school/ college and you wish to improve your grade by taking this course, then you will need to pay full fees.
What you will study
Modern physicists have been responsible for some of the greatest achievements of our era. Just think – without our understanding of atomic theory there would be no computers, no internet, no smartphones. The digital age as we know it would not exist. Without quantum mechanics there would be no lasers or satellite navigation.
Who knows where future scientific discoveries and inventions will take us? If you’re up for shaping tomorrow’s world, an A Level in Physics could take you to the frontline of the latest emerging technology. Whether you are working in a field directly related to physics like nuclear physics or astronomy, or one that simply uses the skills you’ve gained, your Physics A Level can really help you to make a difference. Topics you will study include: Mechanics; Electric Circuits; Materials; Waves and Particle Nature of Light; Further Mechanics; Electric and Magnetic Fields; Nuclear and Particle Physics; Thermodynamics; Space; Nuclear Radiation; Gravitational Fields; Oscillations; Experimental Methods.
During the year there will be formal internal assessments which you will need to pass in order to be entered into the final three public written examinations.
Progress to a wide range of degree and other higher education courses, apprenticeships or employment.
General A-Level entry requirements: Three GCSEs at grade 5 or above plus two further GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and a written subject (not including Languages). Additional entry requirements: Grade 5 or above in Maths and Science. You will also need a good reference. All applicants must take an entry test and have an interview to confirm that an intensive programme is appropriate.
