Happy Easter to the Royal Marsden

Wednesday 28 March 2018

A team of culinary students at Westminster Kingsway College in Victoria have made a giant Easter egg for the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, which was delivered to the Royal Marsden by two of our students in time for Easter.

The students were guided by chef lecturers Sue Yeates (Pastry) and Ashley Spencer (Bakery) and spent many hours, and 25 Kg of high quality Belgian chocolate, mixing the chocolate (the college has its own chocolate lab!), then moulding, carving and decorating the egg. The whole egg is edible – even the intricate ‘ribbons’ on the top are made of chocolate.

Sue Yeates, Chef Lecturer in Pastry said “We are one of the UK’s leading culinary colleges and our graduates have gone on to work in – and run – top kitchens and restaurants. It’s a great experience for our students to create this Easter egg for such an amazing charity.

Two of the students who created the egg – Jodie Whitehead and Tia Adegboyega – made a nervous 13 mile journey over to the Royal Marsden in Sutton to deliver the enormous egg in person to staff and patients.

Tanya, a Senior Play Specialist at The Royal Marsden said: “It really cheered up the patients and their families when they saw the Easter Egg. Everyone sends a massive thank you to the students who made it. It’s so kind and thoughtful of them.” As well as this giant egg, our students also made more normal-sized Easter eggs for sale in at our Victoria Centre.
