Best of Music Showcase 2014

Tuesday 3 June 2014

Westminster Kingsway College Music and Music Production students showcased a night of original music and live performances as a finale to the Westminster Kingsway College Music Season at the King’s Cross Centre Theatre.

The Best of Music showcase was the culmination of the College Music Season, which included two weeks of music performances and seminars held by the Music Department at Westminster Kingsway College. Music seminars were held with workshops from musician Charlotte Hatherley, music producer Kevin Feazy and musician and journalist Mathew Rozeik. Students also got a chance to work on professional gigs at the College gaining industry experience including technical roles, front of house, merchandising and lighting.

As part of the College Music Season, music students from East Kent College visited Westminster Kingsway College to work with students, sharing ideas, best practice and performing together. The final week of the season ended with the ‘Turn Down for What’ and ‘Playback’, shows from Level 2 and Level 3 Music and Music Production students and the grand finale of The Best of Music Showcase.

Charlie Round-Turner, Westminster Kingsway College Acting Programme Manager for Performing Arts and Music, said: “The majority of the performers in the show haven’t finished their education at College and are already showing great promise. The students had great interest from industry labels which is why they exclusively performed original tracks. We are really excited about what the Music Department can achieve with our students moving forward and look forward to the next year academic year at Westminster Kingsway College”.

Caitlyn Scarlett, BTEC Level 3 Music student will be finishing this year and progressing to Goldsmiths University. Caitlyn said: “I was drawn to the College because of its great reputation. I came for an Open Day and the fantastic equipment sealed the deal up for me. Here, we don’t just study music, we make music as well. Even though I professionally work as a musician already, studying at Westminster Kingsway College was invaluable to me and I’m so glad I was able to study here.”
