Our student stories: Ashley is tuned-up for success!

Wednesday 3 July 2019

Having gone to school in Nigeria, Music Production and Performance student Ashley is enjoying her time at Westminster Kingsway College, feeling much more in control of her future than she did at school back home.

Shy by nature, Ashley blooms when she is on stage singing and at the end of last year she was thrilled to be selected by her tutors to perform in front of the Mayor of London. Ashley loves making her own music (you can hear her on her Twitter and Instagram feeds) and hopes to go onto university to study Music Production and Sound Engineering.

Studying a Level Three Extended Diploma in Music Production and Performance at Westminster Kingsway College, Ashley has learnt a lot and had many opportunities she never thought possible:

“I was in search of colleges that offered the music production course I wanted to do. I decided to come here because of the great facilities and opportunities on offer. It’s welcoming and diverse and there is a lot to learn.  I’ve been exposed to a lot of things that I never thought I could be; I would always recommend the College.”

“I was selected as one of the students to perform at London Skills Week where Sadiq Khan [London’s Mayor] came along. It was great for me to step up and see what it’s really like out there.”

“My teachers are really helpful. I can go to them and show them my work and they will tell me what I’m doing right and wrong. It’s one of the best parts of this course, being able to get real feedback.”

“My big plan is to be a musician in my own band and tour around. My immediate goal is to go to uni to study Music Production and Sound Engineering. Before then I plan to take an apprenticeship in a gap year if I can. It might not be related to music but I’d like to widen my experiences.”

The UK is the third largest market in the world for the sales of music and second only to the USA as a source of repertoire. The UK music scene is vibrant and diverse, and is home to world class talent in every genre. With industry standard music suites, our King’s Cross Centre houses first-class facilities for you to develop your passion for music in an industry that is one of the UK’s biggest and most culturally significant creative sectors.
