Building your brand with fashion stylist Kyle De’Volle

Wednesday 22 November 2017

Famous fashion stylist, Kyle De’Volle, gave a “Building a Brand with Style” workshop, which was streamed live on MTV Break’s Facebook page, to students from our fashion, media and music courses, on Wednesday 8 November.

Kyle described how his career in fashion began as an assistant and then progressed to becoming the stylist for stars such as Rita Ora and Bruno Mars. Kyle shared some wonderful insights into the steps students need to take and the importance of searching out your inspirations, and being confident in who you are. Over 6500 people watched the live stream.

Students asked questions on how they could use social media to build their own brand and make the connections to help develop their careers. On leaving the session students described their experiences:

Abena: “It was so inspiring, and it felt so personal. His ideas on developing make up for men is fantastic and has made me think of new business ideas”

Victoria: “I felt I had no idea where to start, but now I know more about how to grow my career in fashion.”

Gigi: “I loved the way he was humble and wanted to help us with advice and insights.”

Armiya: “Here was someone who came from nowhere and has built a great career and shared his past experiences to help us.”

Vesme: “It made me feel my career is imminent. He uplifted my spirit.”

Westking plans to maintain its links with MTV and Kyle, and explore ways we can secure voluntary work placements, and engage with Kyle’s new project to support young people from the LGBT community.
