The competition was held in the kitchens at Westminster Kingsway College’s Victoria campus on 22nd January 2018, and the judges included Danilo Cortellini (former Professional MasterChef Finalist), Davide Degiovanni (Head Chef at Gordon Ramsay’s Union Street Café), Paul Gayler MBE (22 years as Executive Chef at the Lanesborough Hotel) and Fabio Pisani from the renowned 2 Michelin star Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia in Milan. Dervis said: “I particularly enjoy cooking risotto and the skills I have learned at Westminster Kingsway college really helped me stand out from the competition and win this award.  I am really looking forward to my prize of cooking with Michelin starred chefs Fabio Pisani and Alessandro Negrini in Milan. It will be an honour and an amazing experience.”

As well as winning an all expenses three-day trip to Milan to cook in the two Michelin-starred restaurant Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia – courtesy of the award sponsors Riso Gallo – Dervis’s Jerusalem Artichoke and Wild Mushroom Risotto recipe will be on the menu at Gordon Ramsay’s Union Street Café for one week.

Dervis’s mentor at WestKing is Chef Lecturer Vince Kelly. He told us: “I am really proud of Dervis and all that he has achieved with us over the past 18 months. He has applied himself from day one and is always looking to progress his skills. Winning this prestigious award is a testament to how far he has come and to the quality of the teaching that we provide here.”
