FREE ‘A profession for all’ event: Thursday 28 June, Victoria SW1P 2PD

Do you work in hospitality, catering, food services or the hotel trade? Or maybe you’re a passionate foodie? On Thursday 28 June, we are holding a free event: “A profession for all” – a celebration of the role of women in the food industry – and we’d love to see you there.

Meet and network with your peers – from chefs and bloggers to restaurateurs and equipment suppliers… as well as our award-winning lecturers and students. We also have interesting and relevant workshops, including: cookery, social media and photography.  This is a charitable event, raising vitally-needed money for Women’s Aid, so please give donations in our charity boxes.

Venue: Westminster Kingsway College, 76 Vincent Square, London SW1P 2PD

Date: Thursday 28 June 2018

Time: 9.30am to 3.30pm

The cost? Free for the day, including refreshments, lunch and afternoon tea… plus a goody bag.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Ruth Hansom (Chef, Westminster Kingsway alumnus, the first female winner of the Young National Chef of the Year title and star of BBC2’s #MillionPoundMenu)
  • Andi Oliver (Restaurateur, food broadcaster and Great British menu judge)
  • Sophie Michell (Executive Chef Home House and caterer to the stars)
  • Judy Joo (Korean-American executive chef, restaurateur, and TV chef).

9.30am  Registration

 

10.00am  Introduction – Kim Caplin – Principal Westminster Kingsway College will welcome guests to our historic college (co-founded by Auguste Escoffier) and our Compere Shokofeh Hejazi – Westminster Kingsway Alumnus and Senior Trend Analyst at The Food People.

Women in Industry  Compered by Shokofeh Hejazi.

Panel:

  • Andi Oliver – Great British Menu Judge
  • Ruth Hansom – Winner on BBC’s Million Pound Menu
  • Sophie Michell – Executive Chef Home House, TV personality, author
  • Judy Joo – Executive Chef Jinjuu Restaurant in London TV personality, author
  • Sarah Peters – Head of Commercial Development & Head of Events at Institute of Hospitality.

During the panel session Shokofeh will chat to each panellist about their amazing personal stories, leading into a wider group discussion regarding gender balance and the role of women in the food industry.

 

11.45am  1 hour Workshop 1.  Choose one workshop from:

  • Andi Oliver – Interactive cookery workshop.
  • Sophie Michell and Jodi Hinds – Food, social media and photography.
  • Thermomix – A cooking experience.
  • Ruth Hansom – Interactive cookery workshop.
  • Mikyung Jeong – Interactive Patisserie workshop.

 

12.45pm  Light lunch and networking provided by Sulstons Kitchen. Ben Sulston (a former Westminster Kingsway student) and his wife Kirsty (a personal trainer and nutrition coach) are providing an energy-boosting lunch. Please do let us know if you have any allergies or intolerances.
