QAA Quality Mark for Westminster Kingsway College

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has confirmed the quality and standards of provision at Westminster Kingsway College following its review in February 2015.

A team of QAA reviewers visited Westminster Kingsway College and judged that its academic standards, the quality and enhancement of its student learning opportunities, and the quality of information about its learning opportunities all meet UK expectations.

The review identified several examples of good practice. These include:
• the integrated and systematic use of the virtual learning environment to support students’ learning and progression
• the pastoral and academic support provided by personal tutors which enhances students’ academic progression and employment prospects.

The review made some recommendations for improvements, for example:
• to ensure that information about the process for academic appeals is fit for purpose, accessible and trustworthy and communicated effectively to staff and students
• to increase the involvement of students in the formal quality assurance and enhancement processes.

Geoff Booth, Assistant Principal at Westminster Kingsway College, said: “The Higher Education team at Westminster Kingsway College were pleased to receive the exceptional feedback from QAA following their recent review visit. The review brought together the teaching team, student representatives and course managers who were all recognised for the strength of the programmes offered to students, the College’s links to employers, and the excellent use of technology available for student use, which all enhance the student learning experience and enable them to progress into work.”

QAA’s Higher Education Reviews are carried out by experts from other universities and colleges. Every review team includes a student reviewer, because QAA believes that students should be partners in the quality assurance of their education.

The team that reviewed Westminster Kingsway College included Brian Whitehead (independent), Dr Amanda Wilcox (University of Hull) and Sarah Mullins (student reviewer from Doncaster College).

A successful review means that the College can display the QAA Quality Mark, indicating to UK and international students that the College meets national requirements for standards and quality. To read the full QAA report click here.

“I loved my course at Westminster Kingsway College. It was a very varied course and not only included tourism modules but also finance and anthropology which I enjoyed. The best thing about the College is the atmosphere of being in a smaller college environment.”
