Westminster Kingsway hosts Portuguese students on Erasmus Student Mobility Programme

Friday 5 October 2018

Westminster Kingsway College recently welcomed a group of 25 students from Escola Comércio Lisboa, a Commerce school based in Lisbon, Portugal to take part in a 2 week international student mobility programme focusing on Social Science and English skills.

The students took part in interactive classes delivered by WKC staff covering the topics of Entrepreneurship, Culinary Arts, Business Management and Art & Design. They particularly enjoyed learning about British food types and looking at the end of year exhibition work of WKC Media and Fashion students.

The group also participated in a visit to the prestigious Savoy hotel where they were given a tour of the many grand ballrooms, themed restaurants and the Edwardian style guestrooms. WKC have a strong partnership with the Savoy hotel, inclusive of WKC teaching staff having worked there previously and enabling our hospitality students the chance to gain work experience at this world-class organisation.

As part of the programme, students also took part in a retail design walking tour. On the tour, students learnt about individual retailers in the West End whilst discussing their marketing strategies and positions.

These activities provide a unique experience for students to network with industry representatives, learn about current trends and hot topics in the sector and witness first-hand the coordination and management required to run a high-end business.

Janet Roberts, Lecturer in Business at Westminster Kingsway College, commented: “It was an absolute pleasure to teach the students. They were all fully engaged and keen to learn.”

Overall student feedback was very positive with many students expressing a wish to live and work in London in the near future. This is the first time Westminster Kingsway College has worked with Escola Comércio Lisboa and WKC would be delighted to host similar programmes in the future.
