Advanced Learner Loans
You could apply for an Advanced Learner Loans if you are aged 19 or over and studying a Level 3 or above course, including Access to Higher Education Diplomas, Certificates or other Level 3 or above courses.

If eligible, you can now apply for an Advanced Learner Loan. They have been introduced by the UK government to support learners aged 19 and over studying advanced and higher level courses. If you are starting a course with Westminster Kingsway College, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. These loans help you to pay tuition fees for your course.
If you are studying Level 3 courses such as Access to Higher Education, up to 4 A-Levels, NVQ Level 3 or NVQ Level 4 Certificate or Diplomas or BTEC National Diplomas, you could qualify for these new loans from the UK government. It is easy to apply, your household income is not taken into account and there is no credit check. If eligible you will not have to make any repayments until your income is over £21,000 a year.
In addition, if you progress from an Access to Higher Education Diploma course to complete a Higher Education Degree you could have your outstanding Advanced Learner Loan for the Access course written off so that you do not need to repay it.
To be eligible you need to be:
- Aged 19 or over at the start of your chosen course
- Resident in the UK
- Studying an eligible course at an approved College or training organisation in England Westminster Kingsway College is an approved College

If you are offered a place at the College for an eligible course, you will be issued with an offer letter providing you with the information that you will need to make a loan application. You will need to complete an application and submit it to Student Finance England.

You can apply for a loan when you apply for your course. The Advanced Learner Loans are administered by Student Finance England (SFE). For further information and guidance on how to apply contact the Learner Experience team in any College Centre or on 020 7963 4181 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The website for applications for the Advanced Learner Loans is now open. From here you can apply online and download information regarding the loans process, payments etc.
You will need to provide details of the:
- The course you wish to study
- The name of the College where you wish to study
- The tuition fee you are being charged; and the amount of loan you wish to take out
The College will be able to provide you with these details. In addition, you will be required to provide your personal details, including name and address and evidence to proof of your identity.
There is a maximum amount of loan available to you based on the type of qualification you are studying and its fee. You will be advised by the Learner Experience team of this amount. You can apply for a loan for the maximum amount to cover your tuition fees or you can pay all or part of the tuition fees yourself.
The Advanced Learner Loan only covers the tuition fees you are being charged by the College. However, you could apply for a Bursary to provide financial support for course related costs if you are facing financial hardship.
No. Your income and credit score is not part of the application.
No. There is no upper age limit.
If you are not a UK national, you will need to provide evidence of your status, for example passport and documentary proof of eligibility and residency inside the UK. You will also need to provide a valid National Insurance (NI) number in order for the loan to be paid to the College on your behalf.

The Learner Experience and Student Finance teams at Westminster Kingsway College will be organising seminars to give you further information about the introduction of the Advanced Learner Loans, the application process and College tuition fees.
