Short Description
This course is suitable for those who would like to progress to a Higher Education course in Law. On this course you will study a range of modules including English Law, Freedoms under the law and Government and Politics. You will learn study skills such as note taking, essay writing, reading and research, preparation for exams and oral presentation. You will be supported throughout the course by a personal tutor who will also give you guidance in applying for Higher Education courses.

Advanced Learning Loan
Learners aged 19 and over who are starting a Further Education course at Level 3 like the Access to HE Diploma may qualify for an Advanced Learning Loan. These loans can help to pay for your College tuition fees.
Find out more contact studentfinance@westking.ac.uk or 020 7963 4181 for more information.
Access Method
You will do a variety of coursework assignments, tests and examinations throughout the course, which are set and marked by your teachers and externally moderated by OCN London. Assessment is continuous over the whole year and is based on a number of set pieces of work such as essays, projects, presentations and tests. Each piece offers 3 credits and for successful completion students must gain 60 credits, at least 45 at level 3.

Progression
Once you have completed your Access to Law Diploma, you can progress to a Higher Education Degree at a University or College. This course prepares students for degree courses in Law or related subjects. In the past students have progressed to the following: International Relations; Law; Law with Criminology; Politics.

You should check requirements for specific degree courses - different Higher Education institutions may have different entry requirements for similar courses. Entry to degree courses requires a range of skills, experience and personal qualities in addition to the Access to HE Diploma. You can greatly improve your personal profile through employment or voluntary work.

Entry Requirements

Humanities
Entry Requirement
This course is suitable for students aged 21 or over. Applicants aged 19 or 20 will also be considered if you have experience outside full-time education, for example through work or travel. Applicants will be assessed through application, interview and tests in English and Maths.

GCSE requirements for Access applicants:
In order to progress to certain Higher Education courses, you may require GCSE English and/or GCSE Maths to fulfil your university entry requirements. Ideally you will already have GCSE Maths and English at grade A*-C. However we understand that not all students meet this requirement and so you will be considered for an Access course if you have one GCSE at grade A*-C in Maths or English and the other at grade D. A GCSE or functional skills course will be offered as an additional option for the Access course - please note that some GCSE classes may be delivered in the evening. If you don't have any GCSEs or equivalent qualifications then we will be able to recommend you for another course based on the results of your initial assessment at interview.
All fees will be confirmed when you enrol onto your course. All students are fee assessed at enrolment
